The control and strength of your abdominal wall has to be proportional to the task these muscles have to deal with. This requires precise training. Failing that means you"ll have lack of control in certain positions, under certain conditions which can lead to injuries but certainly a plateau in your performance, if we are talking about competitive sports.
Why though? Partly because you'll have to have abs to fixate the skeleton so other big muscles have a fixed point to pull against during contraction. You have to have global abs in static for the stability and posture of your spine while having the intrinsic segmental control and strength to move the trunk dynamically in different movements during activities to bend, rotate, lift and contain the intra-abdominal pressure created during heavy lifts. The lower abs have to manage the posture of the pelvis, move the sacroiliac joints and they are required to have endurance, power, speed etc. for the task at hand.
When we are talking about segmental muscular strengthening of the abs we are talking about various types of movements and ways of strengthening the supra and sub umbilical portions of the rectus abdominis, external and internal oblique muscles, thoracic diaphragm "spiced" with a little transversus abdominis.
Through relational/fascial anatomy, and specific exercise techniques, this course will provide you with a deep understanding of how targeted conditioning of the abdominal muscles can help:
- correct hernias and abdominal wall separations,
- improve digestive issues such as constipation etc.
- support a spinal rehabilitation program
-
all through specific muscular strengthening. Over 100 exercises and its variations that can be used regularly in strength & conditioning as well as in the field of rehabilitation, especially for the spine, lumbo-pelvis dysfunction, abdominal wall separations, hernias and digestive disorders.
Course outline:
-
Segmental strengthening exercises for the upper and lower rectus abdominis, external and internal oblique muscles and the thoracic diaphragm with some transversus abdominis.
-
Technical analysis of the movements which are the basis of muscle strengthening.
- Learning to execute and perfect the movement -practice by doing with progression factors.
- Warm ups & cool-downs for better recovery, injury prevention
- Quality effort in terms of strength, volume, power, speed, resistance, endurance and maintenance of fitness
- Planning training sessions
- Muscular re-education programs
- Sports preparation programs
This course can be taken a la carte as an individual module or as a part of the full Somatraining program.
